The District was created in 1967 by a resolution from the County Legislature, with a mission to protect the natural resources of Orange County, particularly our soil and water. Originally, almost all of the District's work was with the agricultural community. As the county has grown and the landscape has changed over the years, our services have expanded and we now provide conservation assistance to municipalities and landowners as well as farmers.
